The Blue Crush were fortunate to add six new players to the roster for the 2017/2018 season and the team started off the training season with great participation and competitive soccer at the Marc Small 3v3 tournament.

Later in the summer, several players participated in Coerver camp and the MUSC week long camp. In addition, several of the girls headed down to the 2017 Beach Blast at Wildwood, NJ to see how well their possession style soccer would adapt to the New Jersey sand. The girls drew the top bracket (out of seven) and won 2 out of 3 games including winds against state cup champs and runner up, Fishertown Fusion and Lighthouse Crunch.

Throughout the summer, the team had an extensive training schedule that included six friendlies to help prepare the team for their summer tournaments and fall regular season.

This preparation allowed the team to perform well at both the Pocono Cup and Al Perlini tournaments. At the Perlini tournament, the team's creativity and unselfish play allowed for ten different players to score on their way to capturing the championship.

The Blue Crush played in the EDP league for the fall, improving their skill and chemistry throughout the season losing only 4 games and finished as a semifinalist in the Bethesda tournament. The team finished the season in the top 30 in PA East (gotsoccer.com).

Turkey Hill Challenge Cup Run

May 2017 - The Methacton United Blue Crush 2006 (U11) Girls entered the group stage of the Turkey Hill Challenge Cup against Harleysville Rangers, Lebco Freedom and FC Providence Wildcats.  In their first game against Harleysville, the Blue Crush showed their excitement to get back on the field after the long winter break by controlling possession with their short passing game leading to a comfortable 6-0 win.  In the next game, the Crush faced the athletic Lebco Freedom.  After dominating possession in the 1st half, the Crush could only muster a 1-0 lead.  In the 2nd half, the Crush withstood multiple counter attacks by an energized Freedom team and scored 2 more goals leading to a 3-0 win.

In the final and deciding game of group stage, the Blue Crush faced the FCP Wildcats who also entered the game with a 2-0 record. Both teams displayed excellent soccer with the game 2-1 at halftime.  In the 2nd half, the Crush’s unselfish play led to goals by 4 different players, leading to a 6-2 win.

In the quarterfinals against YMS Freedom, both teams played an evenly matched game with YMS scoring the only goal in the 1st half.  The Crush responded in the 2nd half with the tying goal leading to a 1-1 score at the end of regulation.  Both teams battled hard in the extra time, with the Crush scoring the game winning goal with only minutes left in the 2nd overtime and securing a spot in semifinals against Lighthouse Crunch. The semi final game mirrored a previous game with Lighthouse which led to a West Chester tournament victory on PKs last summer. The game began with Lighthouse taking the lead in the 1st half and the Blue Crush tying the game in the 2nd half.  The game was tight throughout highlighted by excellent play from both goalies resulting in a 1-1 score at the end of regulation and two overtimes.  The game again went to PKs, with Lighthouse prevailing this time.  The girls showed composure throughout the tournament and it was a great way to end a successful 2016/2017 soccer season.

Fall 2016 Regular Season and Tournaments

The Blue Crush played in the PAGS Division 2. The team played a ball control style of soccer focusing on working from the back allowing for maximum touches for the entire team. Throughout the season, the team maintained a high level of play and played with compsure even against tough competition.

In addition, a strong sense of team developed and many new friendships were made.  The season was highlighted by exciting wins over Lighthouse, Ukies Black, and Deep Run.

Summer-Fall-Winter 2016 Training

Summer-Fall 2017 Training

In addition to playing in a competitive PAGS D2 schedule, the Methacton Blue Crush underwent an extensive training schedule that consisted of weekly MUSC training sessions, team sessions run by Andy Wilkes (MUSC Head trainer) and ~10 Friendlies with local clubs

The friendlies were especially useful to develop strategy, increase player touches, allow players to learn multiple posistions  and build team unity.  The team appreciates all the participating clubs (Rose Tree, Hunter Flames, CRUSA Wariors, Pottsgrove, Ukranian National, Springfield, FC Providence, U12 MUSC Avengers) and hopes that we can continue playing in the future.

During the winter 2016/2017, the team did indoor soccer training at soccer the All Sports Center and futsal training with David Carvalho (the Head Soccer Coach at Rosemont College). The girls really enjoyed the futsal training. The inherent fast pace of futsal allowed the team to focus on speed, ball skills and short passing.

Blue Crush win the 2016 West Chester United Summer Classic Elite division

August 7, 2016 - The Methacton Blue Crush won the 2016 West Chester United Summer Classic Elite division in their first tournament as a team after the USA soccer age group realignments. Throughout the tournament the girls demonstrated a commitment to playing together as a team both on offense and defense.

The 1st game against FC Brandywine Premier started off tense with 5 Methacton shots hitting the cross bars and uprights leading to a 0-0 tie at half time. The team’s fitness showed in the second half when they opened with two quick goals on the way to a final 3-0 victory.

In the 2nd game, the Lionville Blues opened scoring less than 30 seconds into the game with a beautiful shot, the Blue Crush quickly responded by scoring on a penalty kick that was awarded for a foul in the penalty area. After the initial score, three more players scored on the way to a 6 - 1 victory.

Sunday bright and early with an 8 AM game against Harleysville Rangers. The girls were a bit groggy in the 1st half but did enough to give themselves the lead and keep the opponent off the score sheet. The Blue Crush awoke in the 2nd half, the game ended as a 6-0 victory for the Crush which earned them a spot in the championship game.

The Blue Crush met the Lighthouse Crunch who came into the final with a 3-0-0 record with 21 goals for and 5 goals against. Lighthouse came out quick with an initial attack, but the Blue Crush absorbed the pressure and responded with possession and team defending. The Blue Crush had a number of good attempts in 1st half with a sequence where both the initial shot and follow up hit the side bar. The match was tied 0-0 at the half. Lighthouse came out energized in the 2nd half and scored the opening goal of the match early in the 2nd half. Blue Crush quickly responded with a number of dangerous attacks including the equalizer. With approximately 15 minutes left, Methacton scored the go ahead goal through quickly building out of the back and a give and go leading to a through pass that opened up the defense. The Crunch tied the game up 2-2 in the final minutes of regulation leading to the game being decided in penalty kicks. The Blue Crush prevailed 3-2 with an outstanding save from their keeper being the difference maker. Overall, the girls showed how a smaller team could dominate by keeping possession and wearing the other teams down. Team defense slowed the quick counter attacks they faced and allowed them to become the 2016 West Chester United Summer Classic Elite division champions.
