Winter 2019-2020

Winter 2019-2020

After a month off, the Dragons were ready to get back in action and build on their successful Fall outdoor season. The team started futsal training sessions, focusing on game speed, footwork, 1-on-1 moves, and decision making skills. This was the first experience with futsal for many team members and took a little bit of time to adjust to the speed and spacing of the game. The Dragons played in the Steel Soccer Indoor Futsal League in the top division. The Dragons kept pace with most of the top tier teams, gaining confidence each passing week and improving game play as the season progressed. Ultimately, the Dragons were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round, but will take the skills learned throughout the futsal season and apply them to outdoor play in the Spring.

2019 Boyertown Blast Tournament

2019 Boyertown Blast Tournament

After wrapping up the regular season, the Dragons concluded their Fall Season with the Boyertown Blast tournament. After having not played in two weeks, the Dragons came out sluggish in the opening game vs. Boyertown Union. The host team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, and just missed a chance to make it 3-0 but the shot went off the post. The Dragons settled in after the early pressure and tied the game 2-2 late in the first half. In the second half, they maintained balanced play and went on to win 7-2, getting goals from 5 different players.

In the second game, the Dragons had a repeat match vs. regular season opponent Harleysville FC Rangers and came away with a similar result. Three players scored two goals apiece as the team earned a 6-2 victory.

In the championship match, the Dragons faced the Parkland Area SC Titans – with both teams coming into the match 2-0, it was sure to be a battle. Parkland applied early pressure but the Dragons utilized a quick counter-attack to go up 1-0. The Titans scored a goal later in the half and the game went into halftime tied 1-1. The teams continued their steady defensive play throughout the second half with neither team getting many scoring chances. Then with about four minutes of play remaining, the Dragons quickly worked the ball from the back and up the sidelines, playing it across for a goal on a great shot and a late 2-1 lead. As the game winded to a close, in the final seconds there was a crowded play in the box, the ball popped out and found its way into the back of the net as the final whistle blew – the game finished in a 2-2 tie. With no extra time or penalty kicks, the teams went to tie-breaker scenarios to determine the winner – the Titans bested the Dragons on goals allowed in group play, earning them the top spot and the Dragons finished as runners up.

A great last game concluded the Fall season and the Dragons finished their opening season across league and tournament play with 16 wins, 2 ties, and just 1 loss.

November 2019

November 2019

Central League - With league play wrapping up, the Dragons set a goal to maintain their solid play and finish the season undefeated. In their match vs. West-Mont United, the Dragons leveraged a two goals each from three different players and an amazing penalty kick save to maintain the shutout and a 6-0 victory.

In the final contest, the Dragons faced Lower Merion SC in a tightly contest match on a frigid November morning. With back and forth action and a number of scoring chances for both teams, the Dragons rode superb goalkeeping, a stellar second half defensive effort, and balanced scoring to earn a 6-2 win and finish league play with an undefeated 9-0-0 record.

October 2019

October 2019

Jack Walsh Tournament - Riding high after a 5-0 league start, the Dragons started bracket play with a tough opening match vs. Horsham Havoc. Finding themselves down 2-0 in the second half, the Dragons maintained focus and netted two goals to earn a well-deserved point. The Dragons' next match resulted in a 9-0 win over Glen Rock Shooting Stats and ended Saturday with a 1-0-1 record.

In Sunday’s matchup, the Dragons faced a tough Aston United team – the Dragons maintained a high level of attacking pressure throughout and posted a 4-0 win. Finishing bracket play with a 2-0-1 record, advancement came down to tie breakers where the Dragons lost out to Horsham by one on goal differential.

It was a great weekend for the team with eight players scoring and two shutouts posted; but more importantly, the team learned how to face adversity on the field and battle back when trailing.

Central League - Two more Central League games closed out the month for the team. With ongoing focus on position rotation, tracking back on defense, and playing out wide, the team earned wins over Phoenixville SC (9-0) and King of Prussia SC (11-0) to bring their Central League record to 7-0-0.

By the end of October, the Dragons were getting much more balanced scoring across the team as each player was gaining comfort with each position. Every player by this point had already netted at least two goals each and all had contributed to posting shutouts in four of the five games in the month of October.

September 2019

September 2019

Central League - Looking to build from the early momentum of the 2nd place tournament finish, the Dragons had five Central League games slated for the month of September – the team would know early on how they stacked up against new competition.

In the opening match vs. Radnor SC, the Dragons played solid defense and leveraged early scoring to post a 6-0 victory. The following weekend the Dragons picked up a pair of wins over Harleysville Rangers (5-1) and in a rematch with Radnor SC (4-0). Over the next two weekends, the Dragons earned a 6-2 victory over Penn Fusion SA and a 5-2 victory over Rose Tree SC, with the second match being tightly contested until two late goals sealed the win.

Throughout the month, the Dragons continued gaining comfort in each of the field positions, focused on transitioning from offense to defense and vice-versa, and playing out wide from the back. Eight different players scored in the five games and everyone as a whole played great defense to post two shutouts.

2019 Al Perlini Tournament - After practicing twice a week for two months and participating in the club’s week long camp, the Dragons were ready for game action.

In their first official game as a team, the Dragons notched a 6-0 victory over Parkwood. Two more wins over Coastal Atlantic FC (3-2) and Buckingham United (6-1) in the round-robin event had the Dragons heading into the final match with an opportunity to finish at the top of the group. In a well-played matched, the Dragons lost a close 1-0 game to PA Rush Academy and earned a 2nd place finish.

With 4 different players scoring in the tournament and each player getting minutes at each field position, the team was thrilled with their play and excited about the upcoming season.
