Oct 11, 2015 — The 0-Fivers had another awesome tournament run this past weekend at the 2015 George Pratt Memorial Soccer Tournament in Cape May, NJ. Hoping to continue their winning streak from their Delco league campaign, the 0-Fivers faced very tough competition in the top-ranked Columbus division. The 0-Fivers had a very solid 2-0 start to the tournament in their round-robin bracket, defeating hosts Cape Express Breakers 4-3 and Manalapan SC United 5-4 on day one.
Day two was a tougher challenage as the 0-Fivers faced the LTSC Strikers, who were also coming off of an undefeated day one. The game was a nail-biter, with 0-Fivers losing a late lead on penalty kick. The game ended in a 3-3 draw, leaving the 0-Fivers tied for first with the LTSC Strikers in their bracket. With first place in their sights, if both teams were to beat their final opponents, their fate would be decided by goal differential.
In their final and deciding match of the tournament, the 0-Fivers faced the familiar Vereinigung Erzgebirge (VE) Kickers, a team from the league next door. VE started strong and led the game from start to finish, beating the 0-Fivers 5-4 in a close and well-contested match. The 0-Fivers left everything on the pitch throughout the tournament, and our coaches and parents could not have been prouder.
Outstanding work 0-Fivers!
