Oct. 6, 2019 -- Some think it's the nearby power lines that give the grass at Heebner Park that extra bit of "buzz." Not true. It's actually the 2010 Methacton United girls travel team that puts a Charge into the Heebner turf. Their electric style of play was on display again Sunday, as the Charge got back to their winning ways with a 2-1 victory at home over the Rose Tree Fireworks.

Cailyn and Grace started off the action with shots on goal in the first few minutes of play. Then, Violet worked the ball down the right side and sent a good cross towards the middle of the box. The keeper made the initial save, but Ava was there to knock in the rebound to give the Charge a 1-0 lead. Getting an early jump on their opponents is nothing new for the Charge, as they've scored first in four of their five league games this season. Rose Tree didn't waste time in evening the score, however, as they took the ball off the ensuing tap and went straight down the field for a goal.

Later in the half, Jessa made a good save in net and transitioned the ball to Ava, who was flying up the right side. That pressure led to a corner kick, where the Charge had a couple chances following strong work in the offensive zone by Bryce. Good passing between Sophia, Ava and Cailyn generated some additional chances before halftime, but the teams went to the break knotted at 1-1. With Tessa anchoring the defense, Rose Tree's scoring chances were few and far between.

In the second half, a handball just outside the box led to a direct kick for Rose Tree, but Penny made a good save to keep the game tied. Rose Tree had multiple possessions in the box, but Cailyn and Riley battled hard on defense to clear the ball out. 

The Charge took the lead for good when Violet and Ava teamed up for another goal. Violet forced a takeaway in offensive zone and lofted a shot on goal that was saved by the keeper. Ava won the ball off the keeper's throw, and fired a hard shot inside the far post to make the score 2-1.

The Charge nearly converted on additional chances to extend their lead. First, Brooke worked the ball up the right side and fed Jessa, whose shot almost made its way past the keeper. Brooke followed with another shot on goal. Soon after, it was the Charge's turn for a direct kick off a handball near the box. Grace took the kick and drilled the ball into the box. It bounced around in front of the goal and through a tangle of players for what seemed like a minute, with Brooke and Jessa both fighting to get the ball in the net before it was eventually cleared by the goalie.

A last-gasp offensive push by Rose Tree with under a minute remaining led to a 1-on-none breakaway, but Penny came out to challenge and make the save to preserve the victory.

The Charge improved to 4-1 in the Central League with the win. They'll participate in the Western Lehigh Fall Fest tournament this weekend in Allentown before resuming their league schedule Oct. 19 against Boyertown.
