Charge vs Charge

Feb. 9, 2020 -- It was a great intrasquad futsal match for the 2010 Charge.

Battle of the Charge II Ends in Tie

Nov. 17, 2019 -- Methacton and Haverford left the field with the Battle of the Charge still undecided after a 1-1 tie on a cold, gray afternoon at Heebner Park. It was the second time in two weeks that the teams had played to a 1-1 tie.

Methacton started strong and was on the attack in the opening minutes. Grace had a throw-in to Penny, who centered to Violet for a scoring chance. Then, a clearing pass from Grace found Brooke at midfield, and Brooke raced past the defense and fired a shot on goal. Haverford's best opportunity of the half came in the form of a one-on-none breakaway, but Jessa sprinted out of the net to clear the ball, sending a long kick ahead to Brooke, who immediately went on the attack. Violet, Ava and Grace teamed up for a few good chances, with Violet having several good throw-ins over the defense to create offense. Jessa played well in goal to stymie the Haverford attack and send Methacton into the break in a scoreless tie.

Methacton came out of halftime with good pressure by Brooke, Sophia and Jessa. Sam, who stepped up from defense multiple times throughout the game to play the ball back into the attacking end, sent a good cross to Brooke, whose shot went just wide. However, after Methacton had controlled play for most of the game, it was Haverford who scored first, on a fluke goal midway through the second half. A hard shot by Haverford hit off a defender and past a diving Penny into the net.

Just when it looked like Methacton may have to surrender the Charge name, Brooke, Grace and Cailyn sustained a long attack in the Haverford end of the field. Fans could sense that a goal was imminent, and they were right. Sam played the ball up to Cailyn on the right side, and Cailyn sent a pretty centering pass to Brooke, who buried the shot to tie the game 1-1. Methacton continued to get chances to push for the win. Tessa made a nice run down the right side, and a few minutes later, Bryce booted the ball ahead and hustled down the left flank. Violet, Riley and Jessa passed well to generate a few more shots.

Methacton finished the season with a Central League record of 4-1-4 and their Charge nickname in tact. They will take a short break from training before resuming team activities this winter.

A Penny Save is a Point Earned for the Charge

Nov. 10, 2019 -- The 2010 Charge all wore their Marc Small Tournament T-shirts for warmups in honor of Veteran’s Day, and in particular remembrance of Marc.

In their second meeting of the season, the Charge and West-Mont played a hard-fought game in a 0-0 tie at Heebner Park, with each team earning a point in the Central League standings. The Charge, no doubt energized by the sleek new headbands they received prior to the game, turned in a stellar defensive effort. Penny patrolled the net and made numerous big saves to earn the clean sheet, while Grace, Tessa and Sam all played well on defense to keep West-Mont off the scoreboard.

Penny made several saves in the opening minutes, as West-Mont was on the attack early and often. The Charge struggled to get consistent pressure, but they had bursts of opportunities throughout the game. Ava and Jessa teamed up for a chance in the first half, followed by a nice run down the right flank by Brooke, whose cross to Violet almost connected. Riley battled through two West-Mont players to get the ball into the offensive zone, where Bryce, Jessa and Brooke passed it around for a shot on goal. Penny made two more saves near the end of the half, and Sophia made a strong defensive play to deny a West-Mont chance. Experts agreed it was the best-officiated half of the season.

In the second half, Penny made the save of the game, diving to her right to stop an open shot from inside the box that was ticketed for the far corner. Shortly afterwards, Brooke went on the counterattack with the Charge's best scoring chance of the day, playing the ball ahead from midfield and racing toward the goal. As the West-Mont keeper came out of the net, Brooke was less than a step away from beating her to the ball for an open shot. Later, Ava worked the ball ahead on the right side to Sophia, who hustled to keep the ball in bounds and cross it to the middle. Cailyn also put in some good work on the right side to move the ball up the field for a scoring chance. Fans were on the edges of their canvas seats near the end of the game, as West-Mont had several opportunities to score. Penny made a tough save on a hard shot, and Brooke quickly cleared the rebound out of harm's way with a strong boot. Then, with time nearly expired, West-Mont had a shot toward the far post, where Bryce was smartly positioned and able to clear the ball before it went into the net.

The Charge (4-1-3 Central League) close out their fall season at home Nov. 17 against Haverford.

Double Charged: Methacton Ties Haverford

Nov. 3, 2019 -- In what was the Central League version of the Spiderman pointing at Spiderman GIF, the Methacton Charge battled the Haverford Charge to a 1-1 tie on a cool fall afternoon at Old Manoa Field in Havertown.

The first half, although scoreless, featured plenty of action from the Methacton offense. Early on, Penny crossed to Violet for a shot that went just wide. Later, some good passing between Sam and Ava on the right side resulted in a shot by Ava that went off the outside of the goal. Grace, Bryce and Brooke teamed up to get more pressure at the end of the half, but they weren't able to crack the Haverford defense. Meanwhile, Haverford's best opportunity came in the form of a 1-on-none breakaway midway through the half, but Cailyn sprinted back to beat the attacker to the ball and absorbed a hard foul to stop the scoring chance. Sophia made all the saves in net for the Charge, while Bryce and Riley put in some gritty work on defense on both sides of the field.

Methacton continued to attack in the second half. Sam passed to Jessa, who found Violet open in the box for a shot, but the play was ruled offsides. Brooke and Grace teamed up for multiple chances, including a nice run down the right flank by Brooke, who sent a cross to Grace that nearly connected. After making a save, Penny made a long throw over the defense to Brooke, who worked the ball through the defense before a clearing attempt went out of bounds. On the ensuing play, Brooke had a strong throw-in that found Grace for another shot on goal. Later in the half, more hard work by Bryce earned a foul and direct kick for Methacton. Tessa took the kick and sent a beautiful pass over the head of the defense to Jessa on the left side. Jessa volleyed the ball into the net for a goal that set off a round of obligatory chest-bump celebrations by Methacton. Alas, Haverford took advantage of the post-chest-bump jubilation and answered with a goal of their own less than a minute later to tie the game. Despite a frenetic pace that saw multiple corner kicks in the final minutes of play, Methacton was unable to get the game-winner.

With the tie, the Nov. 17 game between Methacton and Haverford will determine the club that owns the true rights to the Charge moniker. Before that, however, Methacton (4-1-2 Central League) has a rematch with West-Mont at home on Nov. 10.

Methacton Charge Forward with Wins at Central League Festival

Oct. 26, 2019 -- The Charge competed in the Central League October Festival on a cool, drizzly Saturday at Radnor High School. The Charge brought their A game on both offense and defense, scoring nine times across three games while not allowing a goal, and we learned that both Mumfords are pretty darn good at coaching.

The Charge played to a 0-0 tie against Marple Newtown in their first game, perhaps needing some time to adjust to the smaller, turf field. Most of the action in that game took place near midfield and along the sidelines, with very few scoring chances on either end.

As the weather got wetter and colder, the Charge's offense heated up, with a 5-0 win over Radnor in game two. Brooke got things rolling with a goal in the first minute of play. Then, Grace sent a long clearing pass across the field to Tessa, who took one touch and buried a shot to give the Charge a 2-0 lead. Ava had several early scoring chances, including a goal that was waived off, before she finally got on the board off an assist from Tessa. Brooke netted another goal after a steal and quick shot, before Violet put the game out of reach by taking a pass from Ava and firing a hard shot that slipped past the keeper. Riley made all the saves for the Charge in posting a clean sheet.

The Charge closed out the day with a 4-0 win against Lionville that featured some impressive passing. On their first goal, the Charge strung multiple passes together, as Penny sent a goal kick to Jessa, who passed ahead to Tessa, who crossed to Grace for a shot that beat the keeper on the near side. Tessa was all over the field on both offense and defense. She sparked the second goal by racing to keep the ball in bounds and dribbling down the sideline before centering to Brooke, who nailed the shot to put the Charge up 2-0. After that goal, Lionville roared back the other way with a hard shot that Penny saved. More precision passing led to the Charge's third goal, with Ava finding Jessa downfield on the attack for a score. Ava closed out the game by stealing a goal kick and beating the keeper.

The Charge's regularly scheduled Central League game on Oct. 27 was rained out, but they'll be back on the pitch Nov. 3 at Haverford.

Oh Mama! Charge Snatch a Tie from the Jaws of Defeat

Oct. 19, 2019 -- The Charge took advantage of two late second half goals to earn a 2-2 tie with Boyertown United at Heebner Park. Jessa scored both goals for the Charge, with help from Brooke and Ava on the attack.

In the first half, Boyertown applied some early pressure, but Tessa flashed across the box to clear the ball before Boyertown could get a shot on goal. Later, Tessa made a good throw-in to Sam, who centered to Riley for a shot that went wide left. The Charge had their best scoring opportunity in the half when they were awarded a direct kick following a handball just outside the box. Brooke took the kick and sent a strong ball through the middle that the Charge were unable to get a foot on. After the ball came back across midfield, Tessa sent a big kick up the left flank that found Sophia for another chance.

At the 22-minute mark, Boyertown had a 2-on-1 in the box, but Jessa was there to make a big save and keep the game scoreless. Unfortunately, Boyertown got a goal on the final play of the first half to go up 1-0.

Sam, Cailyn and Tessa opened the second half with good pressure on the attack. Then, thanks to some hard work by Grace, Bryce and Violet, the Charge worked the ball over to Ava on the left side. Ava sent a nice ball ahead to Jessa for a shot.

Midway through the second half, Boyertown kept the ball in the attacking zone and got a strong shot on net. Penny made the initial save, but Boyertown put in the rebound to go up 2-0.

However, the Charge answered just one minute later. Ava, Brooke and Jessa teamed up with sustained offensive pressure. Jessa got the ball at the top of the box, beat a defender and hit a shot past the goalie to bring the Charge within a goal. The same group continued to attack, and with four minutes to go in the game, Brooke found Jessa again inside the box. Mama buried the shot to tie the game.

Boyertown made a late push, but Penny made a diving save, followed by a save off a corner kick. She chucked the ball upfield to Brooke, who dribbled down the field and got a corner kick for the Charge. Now with all the momentum, the Charge continued to attack until the final whistle. There's little doubt that if the game had been five minutes longer, the Charge would have found a way to get the winning goal.

The Charge (4-1-1 Central League) remain undefeated at Heebner Park and will next battle Haverford at home Oct. 27.

Charge Place Second at Fall Fest Tournament

Oct. 12-13, 2019 -- The Charge put on a good showing with a second-place finish at the Western Lehigh United 25th Annual Four Game Fall Fest tournament in Allentown. In what was a stalwart defensive effort all weekend, the Charge allowed only two goals in four games.

In their first game on Saturday, the Charge battled Penn Fusion Lehigh Valley to a scoreless tie. They controlled play for most of the game but were unable to find the back of the net. The defense, led by Tessa, played a starring role, holding Penn Fusion Lehigh Valley to only one shot on goal and keeping things relatively stress-free for Jessa and Penny in net. For its part, the offense applied plenty of pressure, with Grace getting multiple shots in both halves, set up by passes from Riley on more than one occasion. In the second half, Jessa cleared the ball ahead to Cailyn, who sent a pass up to Ava. Ava outran the defense and hit a shot just wide left. Later, Brooke crossed to Jessa for another good chance, but Jessa's shot went wide right.

The scoreless streak continued into the second game, as the Charge were tied with Keystone Athletic 0-0 at halftime. Riley played well in goal for the Charge, making four saves, including one play where she came out to challenge a breakaway and beat the attacker to the ball. Brooke had the best chance of the half, when she raced past the defense and put a strong shot on net that required a diving save by the keeper. By the second half, the Charge had tired of seeing zeroes on the board. Shortly after halftime, Jessa drove into the offensive zone and centered back to Brooke, who buried the shot for a 1-0 lead. A long clear by Brooke to Sophia for a shot nearly gave the Charge another goal just minutes later. The Charge made it 2-0 when Violet battled through two defenders to take the ball into the box, where she found Riley just outside the 6. Riley hit a low shot to the far post that beat the keeper.

On Sunday morning, the Charge faced off against Floral Park and played to a 1-1 tie. Floral Park scored at the 5-minute mark to take the early lead. Shots by Jessa and Sam were the Charge's best offensive chances in what was a very even first half. The Charge turned up the attack in the second half. After Sophia made a nice save in goal with a lot of traffic in the box, Brooke played the ball ahead to herself, sprinted to the ball at the 18 and nailed a shot off the far post. Sophia made two more saves, including a diving stop to keep the Charge in the game. Then, the Charge began to impose their will with a sustained attack that included several corner kicks and steals off goal kicks. The Charge had Floral Park on the ropes, and it was just a matter of time until they finally solved the defense. That came in the 38th minute, when Brooke stole the ball off a goal kick and hit a shot at a tough angle past the keeper to tie the game. Brooke and Jessa had several other chances later in the half but the Charge just couldn't get the game-winner.

With an undefeated record of one win and two ties, the Charge earned a place (via tiebreaker) in the championship game against Penn Fusion United. It was a thrilling, back-and-forth championship match that was -- you guessed it -- scoreless until the last minute of play. That's even more impressive considering Penn Fusion United had scored 11 goals in its previous three games. In the first half, Penny made two early saves for the Charge, and then Riley worked the ball out to Jessa, who passed to Bryce up the right flank. That pressure earned the Charge a corner kick, which Bryce gathered and passed to Jessa, whose left-footed shot went just wide. A few minutes later, Brooke fought hard to win ball at midfield and passed to Grace, who dribbled on goal and sent a hard shot wide left. The Charge continued to attack, as Tessa sent a good cross that nearly connected with Ava for an open look in front of the net. Meanwhile, Penny kept Penn Fusion United off the board with a big save at the end of the half, coming out to the top of the 18 to challenge a breakaway. Penn Fusion United controlled play early in the second half. They nearly scored off the opening tap, when they went straight down the field and hit the post with a shot. The Charge stood tall and eventually went on the counterattack. They had a great opportunity at the 43-minute mark, when Grace played the ball from the top of the box wide to Jessa. She found Sophia open right in front of the goal, but the play was ruled offsides. For the next few minutes, Grace, Jessa and Sophia worked hard to create chances, with Tessa stepping up from D to keep the ball in the offensive zone. Unfortunately for the Charge, Penn Fusion got a breakaway in the last minute of play and snuck in a goal to earn the win.

The silver medal finish marked the second consecutive year the Charge brought home hardware from the Fall Fest tournament. They return to Central League action this Saturday 10/19 against Boyertown.

Charge Electrify Heebner Park in Win Over Rose Tree

Oct. 6, 2019 -- Some think it's the nearby power lines that give the grass at Heebner Park that extra bit of "buzz." Not true. It's actually the 2010 Methacton United girls travel team that puts a Charge into the Heebner turf. Their electric style of play was on display again Sunday, as the Charge got back to their winning ways with a 2-1 victory at home over the Rose Tree Fireworks.

Cailyn and Grace started off the action with shots on goal in the first few minutes of play. Then, Violet worked the ball down the right side and sent a good cross towards the middle of the box. The keeper made the initial save, but Ava was there to knock in the rebound to give the Charge a 1-0 lead. Getting an early jump on their opponents is nothing new for the Charge, as they've scored first in four of their five league games this season. Rose Tree didn't waste time in evening the score, however, as they took the ball off the ensuing tap and went straight down the field for a goal.

Later in the half, Jessa made a good save in net and transitioned the ball to Ava, who was flying up the right side. That pressure led to a corner kick, where the Charge had a couple chances following strong work in the offensive zone by Bryce. Good passing between Sophia, Ava and Cailyn generated some additional chances before halftime, but the teams went to the break knotted at 1-1. With Tessa anchoring the defense, Rose Tree's scoring chances were few and far between.

In the second half, a handball just outside the box led to a direct kick for Rose Tree, but Penny made a good save to keep the game tied. Rose Tree had multiple possessions in the box, but Cailyn and Riley battled hard on defense to clear the ball out.

The Charge took the lead for good when Violet and Ava teamed up for another goal. Violet forced a takeaway in offensive zone and lofted a shot on goal that was saved by the keeper. Ava won the ball off the keeper's throw, and fired a hard shot inside the far post to make the score 2-1.

The Charge nearly converted on additional chances to extend their lead. First, Brooke worked the ball up the right side and fed Jessa, whose shot almost made its way past the keeper. Brooke followed with another shot on goal. Soon after, it was the Charge's turn for a direct kick off a handball near the box. Grace took the kick and drilled the ball into the box. It bounced around in front of the goal and through a tangle of players for what seemed like a minute, with Brooke and Jessa both fighting to get the ball in the net before it was eventually cleared by the goalie.

A last-gasp offensive push by Rose Tree with under a minute remaining led to a 1-on-none breakaway, but Penny came out to challenge and make the save to preserve the victory.

The Charge improved to 4-1 in the Central League with the win. They'll participate in the Western Lehigh Fall Fest tournament this weekend in Allentown before resuming their league schedule Oct. 19 against Boyertown.

Charge Stall Against West-Mont

Sept. 29, 2019 -- In the first of two meetings this season between the Methacton United Charge and the West-Mont United Union, the Charge dropped a 3-1 contest to West-Mont in Limerick. Despite the final score, outside of a 10-minute stretch in the second half when West-Mont scored all of its goals, the Charge seemed to be in control and had the majority of chances.

After Bryce and Jessa teamed up for a couple chances in the early going, the Charge struck first at the 9-minute mark. Sam made a nice play to keep the ball in bounds on the left sideline and then hit a strong cross to Brooke sprinting up the right side. Brooke took the ball downfield and hit a low shot past the keeper to give the Charge a 1-0 lead. The Charge made several defensive stops to keep West-Mont scoreless, with Brooke hustling back to stop a breakaway and Penny making a good two-handed save to deny West-Mont's best chance of the half.

In the second half, West-Mont scored a quick goal in first minute of play to tie the game. Minutes later, they went up 2-1 on a penalty kick following a handball in the box. They added their third goal with some pressure on the right side at 36 minutes.

The Charge didn't go down without a fight. Penny muscled her way through the West-Mont defense to create a couple chances, including a shot by Grace. Ava had a nice run up the right side, and Brooke got open behind the defense and clanged a shot off the post. Jessa and Brooke continued to generate scoring chances up front, with Jessa getting multiple shots, including a blast that went just wide right. As the clock ticked down, Brooke gave a tireless effort on the attack, at one point working the ball up the right side through the entire West-Mont defense to get a shot that nearly found its way past the keeper.

The Charge (3-1 Central League) face off against the Rose Tree SC Fireworks on Oct. 6.

Charge Show Support For MHS Girls' Soccer

Sept. 25, 2019 -- The Charge volunteered their time Wednesday evening as sideline runners during the Methacton High School Girls' Varsity game under the lights.

Charge Keep Rolling With Clean Sheet Against Marple Newtown

Sept. 22, 2019 -- The Charge continued their assault on the Central League with a 3-0 win over Marple Newtown in their home opener. The Charge had no problems with a slow start in this one, as they scored first and were in control for most of the game.

Jessa announced her presence early on with a hard shot off the post. Minutes later, Sam forced a takeaway on defense and worked the ball ahead to Sophia. She fought through traffic to get the ball wide to Riley on the right side. Riley dribbled in and hit a shot just inside the near post to put the Charge up 1-0.

Later in the half, Ava played the ball up the line to Brooke, who outraced the defense and crossed to Jessa in the box. Jessa battled through the Marple Newtown defense, and eventually, the ball bounced back out to Brooke at the top of the box. She settled it and drilled a shot past the goalie for a 2-0 lead.

In goal, Penny made several good saves to keep Marple Newtown off the board and also triggered a few attacking opportunities with strong throws downfield.

In the second half, the Charge applied relentless pressure, spending the majority of play in the offensive zone. Grace and Ava did some good work that resulted in shots on goal for both players, but the Marple Newtown goalie was up to the task.

Penny gave the Charge a 3-0 edge by taking a cross from Grace and knocking in her own rebound after initially hitting the post. The Charge looked to have a fourth goal when Jessa scored off a shot from Brooke, but the play was ruled offsides. Sam started that opportunity with a good throw-in to Brooke.

The attack continued when Tessa made a stop on defense and followed it with a big blast, sending the ball upfield to Cailyn. Cailyn passed to Violet, whose one-timer went wide left. Near the end of the game, a great throw-in by Tessa in the offensive zone found Ava open in the box, but the goalie made another nice save to prevent the goal. Meanwhile, Sophia made all the saves in net to preserve the Charge's first clean sheet of the season.

Overall, it was a well-played game by Mumford & Girls. The Charge (3-0) are back at it Sept. 29 at West-Mont United.

What a Comeback! Charge Use Big Second Half to Down Boyertown 5-3

Sept. 15, 2019 -- Sometimes it's not how you start, but how you finish that matters. That was certainly true Sunday at Douglass Park, as the Methacton United Charge overcame a 3-0 deficit to stun Boyertown 5-3.

Things looked bleak early for the Charge, as Boyertown scored a goal in the first minute of play off the opening tap. Eight minutes later, they struck again to go up 2-0. Grace and Ava both had shots on goal, but the Charge struggled to sustain pressure on offense. When Boyertown went up 3-0 midway through the half, it looked like it may not be the Charge's day.

However, Tessa, Riley and Sophia all made great hustle plays to sprint back on defense and stop potential Boyertown breakaways, and Jessa made a good two-handed save in goal to give the Charge some momentum.

The Charge slowly began to mount their attack as the half progressed. With under a minute to go, Bryce hustled back to get the ball on defense, moving it up to Tessa, who passed ahead to Grace. Grace took one touch and buried a shot in the back of the net just before time expired. It was just the spark the Charge needed.

In what is becoming a pattern, the Charge came out of the break with plenty of energy and dominated the second half. The shots on goal came fast and furious. First it was Violet. Then Brooke sent a shot over the crossbar off a pass from Cailyn. Brooke out-sprinted the Boyertown defense and hit a shot off the post. A great ball from Tessa found Jessa alone at the top of the box, and Jessa's shot also went off the post. Despite the near-misses, the Charge didn't let up.

Minutes later, Jessa got another chance and left no doubt about it, blasting a shot past the goalie to make the score 3-2. Tessa and Jessa teamed up once again, with Tessa hitting a wide open Jessa at midfield. Jessa dribbled in and drilled a goal that tied the game.

With the Charge seemingly always on the attack, some nice passing between Grace, Sophia and Brooke resulted in an own goal by Boyertown to give the Charge a 4-3 lead. Grace one-timed a beautiful cross from Brooke to put the exclamation point on an exciting second-half comeback and 5-3 victory.

Boyertown tried to stage a comeback of their own late in the second half, but the Charge's defense was stout. Sam stepped up a couple times from her defensive position to clear the ball, and Penny played well in goal to keep Boyertown off the board.

With the win, the Charge improved to 2-0 in the Central League heading into a rematch against Marple Newtown in the Charge's home opener Sept. 22.

Charge Topple Marple Newtown 3-1

Sept. 8, 2019 -- The Methacton United Charge opened their Central League schedule with a strong showing in a 3-1 win over Marple Newtown SA Rock at Drexel Lodge Park. The game was highlighted by strong passing and good hustle by the Charge.

The Charge showed off their transition game in scoring their first goal. After stopping a corner kick on the defensive end, Violet worked the ball up to Ava, who made a nice run down the right side. Ava dribbled past the goalie near the end line on the right side, and centered the ball back to Brooke, who knocked it in for the score.

A few minutes later, Bryce, Violet and Grace had a nice possession, moving the ball around in the offensive box and generating a shot on goal. A one-timer by Grace off a pass from Riley went just high and wide. Meanwhile, Penny made several good stops in goal to maintain the lead.

Although the Charge dominated play for most of the half, Marple Newtown got a late chance on a breakaway and scored with under a minute left to even the game 1-1.

The Charge came out strong from the break, as Grace got a quick shot on goal off the opening tap. Following a nice save by Riley in goal, Tessa made a good throw-in on the left side to Jessa, who centered the ball ahead to Violet. Violet took a couple touches and fired a shot into the net to put the Charge up 2-1.

The Charge kept up the pressure, as Jessa had two shots, and Penny stole the ball off a goal kick and hit a shot that was deflected wide by the goalie. Sophia had a good tackle and takeaway on defense that led to a breakaway for Brooke, with her shot going just wide left. Bryce and Cailyn also generated a couple good offensive chances for the Charge. On defense, Tessa, Sam and Grace all stepped up several times to deny Marple Newtown attackers.

Violet netted her second goal of the game and gave the Charge some breathing room late in the second half. She picked up a loose ball across midfield, and lofted a shot over the goalie’s head to put the Charge on top 3-1.

The Charge will look to continue their momentum in their next game, Sept. 15 at Boyertown.

Winter 2019

After taking some time off over the holidays, the Charge are back at it again! The team is training with Coach Andy once per week and also participating in a futsal league on Saturday nights. With its new rules, smaller ball and faster pace, the girls are enjoying the new adventure of futsal and looking to build their skills for the upcoming Central League spring season.

Fall 2018

November 2018

With the fall season coming to a close, the Charge entered November looking to continue their improvement as a group over the remaining three Central League games. After a home victory the first weekend of November, the Charge were on the road again to face Radnor on November 11th. With the Veteran’s Day holiday also observed on 11/11, a number of the girls wore their Marc J. Small Tournament t-shirts as warmup shirts to honor Marc and all of our veterans for their service to our country. After posting a 2-0 victory against Radnor, the Charge concluded their fall season with a 5-2 win over Chester Springs under the lights at Downingtown High School. Playing under the lights for the first time was a great way to close out an awesome first fall travel season!

October 2018

October brought another tournament opportunity for the Charge as they traveled an hour north to participate in the Western Lehigh United SC Fall Fest Tournament. In the tournament opener, the Charge played one of their best games of the season and defeated Haverford 1-0 by using team defending, good spacing and lots of passes down the flanks. Throughout the whole game, you could see the girls were having fun and were off to a great start in tournament play. That momentum carried forward to the afternoon game where the Charge defeated Main Line Soccer to close out the first day of tournament tied for a share of the division lead.

Sunday’s first match proved a little more difficult as the Charge fell to the Floral Park Direwolves 2-1 in an exciting end to end game. After having a few hours to rest up between games, the girls rallied in the final game of the tournament by defeating Little Neck 3-0. With 3 wins and two additional points for shutouts, the Charge took home their second tournament title and were named champions of the silver division!

The Charge rounded out their busy October schedule with three additional Central League victories but more importantly an ever growing understanding of playing together as a team!

September 2018

Looking to build on their encouraging start to the season, the Charge entered September ready to experience Central League competition for the first time. And let’s just say that experience got off to a very soggy start! With heavy rain falling the day before and the day of the game, it looked certain the team’s first league game would be postponed but Interboro (the home team) elected to move forward with the game. In what was more puddle kicking than soccer, the Charge battled to a water soaked 2-2 draw in their season opener. Thankfully sunnier skies were on the horizon (literally and figuratively) as the balance of September saw the girls notch their first home victory of the season the following week against Radnor and their first away victory at Rosetree the week after that.

August 2018

After training as a group twice per week since the spring and attending the club’s annual summer camp, the Charge were anxious to kick off their inaugural travel season together. The team’s first competitive action came in mid-August as they participated in the Baxter Blast Tournament hosted by King of Prussia Soccer Club. After winning their opening game 6-1 over the tournament hosts, the Charge followed up in game two with another strong showing by defeating Aston United 5-2.

As the girls waited to participate in their first ever tournament championship game, strong storms started to develop with eventual downpours canceling the remaining games. Despite the championship rainout, the Charge were named the tournament champs as the girls had accumulated the highest total points in their bracket thanks to the two victories and the highest goal differential. Below is a picture of the team on the tournament day as well one with their Baxter Blast championship trophy (awarded in October as that was our next scheduled trip to King of Prussia).
